Orthopaedic Management

SMA commonly causes people to have bone and muscle (orthopaedic) problems. These can include problems with the spine, hips, joints and bones. Irrespective of drug or other treatments, all with SMA (sitters, non-sitters and walkers), should have regular assessments and reviews by  trained team members such as an orthopaedic consultant, physiotherapist (PT) or occupational therapist (OT). This should allow for any issues to be managed in a way that will help with achieving or maintaining movement and well-being.
